This painting was made during the 2023 PleinAirTexas festival in San Angelo, TX. On Wednesday, October 25th the rain pushed most artists into various covered awnings or buildings in San Angelo. One of the businesses that allowed painters to escape the rain was the Railway Museum near downtown. I joined four other painters and selected a view from the building. I chose to paint on the second floor in one of the model train rooms. One of my favorite studio painters is Amy Bennett who builds her own sets using similar models in her studio. I always liked the surreal effect of small scale inanimate objects painted as though they were actual environments. I chose to paint from a table top perspective so the back window would fit in the painting. Having both the synthetic environment juxtaposed with the real environment seen through the glass of the window created a strangeness that I really liked. I think I'll try out some of these ideas in my studio this winter.
This painting is currently unvarnished (will be suitable for varnish if desired after April 2024). Will ship wrapped in plastic in a cardboard box. Paintings are available for local pickup at no additional cost. All orders of $100 or more are eligible for free shipping in the US. Paintings ship only after the full payment has been received - this includes monthly payment plans.
