Painted at the 2024 Juried Lighthouse Plein Air Festival. This painting was created on Wednesday, March 6th when the weather was poor in Port Salerno, FL. I was looking for a place to paint while a brief rainstorm passed through. I was headed to work on a larger painting in Port Salerno this day but that spot was uncovered so I parked nearby and explored the covered docks of Manatee Park. I saw this beautiful profile of a blue boat docked in front of the harbor which was cloaked in a misty gray atmosphere. The blue against the gray captured my attention. I brought a few extra 8" x 10" linen panels with me in case I had time to work between the larger float framed canvases. This painting was a single session painting and relied heavily on moments of economy and simplification. I'm very happy with how this painting turned out and may have caught the boat painting bug. Time will tell. The painting is currently unvarnished (can be varnished with recommended advice starting in August of 2024).
