Egg Tempera on Traditional Gesso Primed Sande Plywood Panel
6" x 8"
Egg Tempera has become a new favorite painting medium of mine for its soft, luminous, and quick drying speed making it a good fit for an avid drawer like myself. In Through You I wanted to convey a visual concept that began in my sketchbook as an ink line drawing. I've become intrigued by the image of hands emerging from boxes and containers. This painting was the first where I joined hands together through a physical illusion in a way that is similar to illusions I explored in my thesis work at MSU. It's the first egg tempera painting where I used the pigment Viridian which allowed me to build a rich acquatic like environment with varying blue-green colors layered in many thin layers up to moments of textured impasto. As you can see in the photos the surface of the painting is buffed to a soft luster which is made without any varnish or wax seal. Sadly as I finished the painting I noticed small cracks in the surface of this painting which I later learned was due to the deep wood grain of the Sande plywood panel. On one hand I enjoy how the cracks add a level of antiquity and sense of time to this new painting.
Material Disclaimer: Please be aware that although my egg tempera paintings are made with high quality artist grade pigments in a traditional handmade egg yolk emulsion they may not be as archival as my gouache or oil paintings. Since egg tempera is a new medium for me, I unfortunately cannot gaurantee that the wood panel, traditional gesso, and other materials are of the highest archival quality. By purchasing the painting you are accepting the possibility that the artwork may naturally fade or crack over time due to effects of humidity or UV exposure. These changes in the painting would likely not be repairable. If you choose to purchase this painting I recommend hanging it in an area with little to no direct sunlight.
Shipping: This painting ships wrapped in plastic with a signed certificate of authenticity in a cardboard box. Free US shipping is offered with the purchase of this painting. A video tour of the painting is available upon request for interested collectors.
